When I got home I had time to actually read the fine print and saw that the insurance is in fact not mandatory. I called the company who refused to do anything other than refund me half the amount spent on insurance.
Beware of using toll tag in vehicle. You will be charged $15 admin fee per toll used!! Was not told this during my agreement signing. My understand was a $15 fee for using it on top of the toll cost. NOT A $15 fee every time I used the toll. My toll fee for 7 day rental was $12 however the admin fee total was $60 so my bill from thrifty was $72 what a racket!!!! Talked to customer service and she was sooooooo rude ! Not happy at all. I have my own toll tag account she said she would be happy to send the bill to that account but administration fees would still be included. NEVER AGAIN THRIFTY.
Thrifty car rental always have what you reserved...cars are well taken care of. Representatives have always been courteous and helpful. Prices are comparable and sometimes better with other car rental companies..
Summary: Don’t use this company, it seems as though they have a history of trying to scam you for more money.
However, I wish I read these reviews prior to renting the car because the representative told me the insurance was mandatory despite me and my boyfriend declining it multiple times. This of course more than doubled the price of the car for the weekend from $96 (purchased through my credit card company) to $230. When you are fresh off the plane you are exhausted and not in the mood to argue with someone who you don’t expect to lie right to your face, so we accepted it.
My reservation went smoothly. They even called a luxury cab to take me home & back to retrieve a forgotten item. The return was efficient, quick & easy as well.
On return of the car, the location apparently is tied in with Budget. But that is not clearly designated and when I tried to park in what I thought was the Thrifty side I was met with with disrespectful sign language by the attendant on duty. Of course I didn't take that well.
The car was fine... But the hassle at the counter and the disrespect at the return point tarnished the experience. On check in, the counter agent tried to intimidate me into buying insurance I did not need. This wasted my time and hers. But I suppose Thrifty believes that is worth the effort if they can make a sale!
The car was fine aside from the chaotic free for all rush to get a car. I had planned to get a standard car but was told the 2 there didn’t have keys in them so I had to get a full sized car, which ok, aside from not being used to driving a large car, was fine. I was a little annoyed to see people drive away with them 5 minutes later though.
